What Do the Help Desks Do?

What types of problems can I expect to have resolved at the Help Desks?

The Computing Help Desks provide troubleshooting for computer-related questions about dial-up communications, residential networking with ResNet, e-mail, Unix, Windows 2000-XP, Macintosh System 9-OS X, and the Internet using the Rutgers Network. The Help Desk consultants also answer questions about account issues, e.g. account creation problems, special account requests and password changes. Problems requiring additional support may be referred to another Computing Services group.

Where are They Located?

New Brunswick

General Help: Assistance for computer-related problems can be found online at New Brunswick/Piscataway Help Desk, located in Hill Center 013 on the Busch campus, 732-445-HELP (4357). Walk-in or phone assistance is available for Rutgers students, faculty and staff only. The Help Desk hours for the academic year are

Mon - Thurs  8:30 AM - 10 PM
Fri8:30 AM - 5 PM
Sat12 N - 6 PM
Sun4 PM - 10 PM
During intersessions the Help Desk is open University business hours, Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5 PM. A voice mail system for messages is available and all calls are returned on the same day. Assistance by e-mail is available at helpdesk@nbcs.rutgers.edu.

Public labs: Additional assistance can be obtained in the public computing labs where student consultants are available for basic support issues.

Network Help: Network specific assistance covering such things as network status, IP address issues and network security problems can be obtained from the Network Support Center at 732-445-0327 or 2105.

Administrative Computing: Operations support for the administrative computing mainframe (rutadmin) is available at 732-445-3004 Monday through Saturday from 8 AM to 8 PM.

Newark

Walk-in, phone, and email help is available:

Normal business hours are Monday through Thursday, 8am to 8pm and Friday 8am to 5pm. Please check above website for summer, winter and intersession hours. All problems reported after normal business hours will be answered on the next business day.

Camden

Walk-in and phone help is available at the Campus Center Help Desk located in room 017B of the campus center, (856)225-6274, and at the Help Desk located in room 109 of the Business and Science Building.

Hours of support during the Academic year are

Sat9 AM - 5 PM
Sun2 PM - 10 PM
